Designing Liquid Metal and the Z index

SOOT needed two foundational systems: Liquid Metal, a composable design library enabling rapid prototyping across surfaces, and the Z index, a spatial framework for layering UI in 3D space. Both required defining new primitives for a category that didn't exist yet.
